Iconic moment of the campaign. Part of me cannot help be delighted at how the dastardly and wicked, when given one last shot at redemption, inevitably throw it away in petulance.
Ted Cruz could have given the same speech, but at the end, looked at the winner and said, "OK, you beat me. I'll vote for you. But if you screw up, I'm going to challenge your ass in 2020." Trump would have given him a thumb's up, and Cruz would have walked out to thunfdderous applause, and folks would have legitimately wondered if maybe the wrong guy was nominated after all.
Bonus: NBC mentions that Heidi Cruz was chased from the auditorium floor with chants of "Goldman Sachs!". Instead of ignoring it, the correspondents went on to explain that's where she used to work.
EDIT: now Trump's pick of Pence makes a lot more sense.
