Cantaloupe Moon

Went out again last night, maybe twenty minutes after sunset. Noticed the darkening sky out the kitchen window with the remnant of the orange band of dusk already sinking on the western horizon. Remembered I needed to shut the garage door. A good time to see the Moon.

Walking down the stairs to the west side of the building, same as last night. Up in the sky, I saw the thickened crescent was like a delicious slice of cantaloupe near midheaven, about as high as the night before because I was out later, and the sun was already below the horizon. Sky was the deepest shade of blue.

Tepid perfect air. Pleasant sounds coming from the nearby restaurant, at the end of the strip mall that backs up to the complex. Conversations and laughter on the patio on the side. Clinking of dishes and glasses. Me having my lunar desert, looking up at the sky.
